What is the Volvo NextTech Program?
A smarter path into the automotive industry
The Volvo NextTech Program is a guided and comprehensive learning journey designed to build both technical expertise and professional confidence. You’ll gain real-world experience as an intern at a Volvo Car Retailer followed by complete immersive, instructor-led training at a Volvo Car training center.
Within six months, participants can complete the first two levels of Volvo Car training and achieve certification as a G1 certified technician. From there, you’ll return to your sponsoring Volvo Car retailer as a full-time technician – launching your career more quickly than traditional training programs.
From apprentice to G1 certified technician
The Apprentice Journey
Retailer Internship (4–12 weeks)
Gain hands-on experience in a Volvo Car retailer service department. Learn the retail environment, work alongside experienced technicians, and build confidence through real-world tasks.
7-Week Immersion
Training
Travel to a Volvo Car training center for an intensive, instructor-led and hands-on learning experience focused on Volvo Car systems, diagnostics, and cutting-edge technologies.
Certification & Career Placement
Once G1 certified, technicians return to their home retailer ready to step confidently into real-world service work. Equipped with Volvo Car–approved diagnostics, tools, and repair standards, they can contribute to the team from day one.

The Retailer Internship
Real-world tasks and experience
Your internship is part of your training journey at a Volvo Car retailer. During this time, you will:
Become a valued member of the retailer’s service team
Complete foundational eLearning on products, procedures, and processes
Perform essential maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, alignments, and brake service
Build familiarity with advanced vehicle technologies
Receive daily mentorship and guidance from experienced technicians
At the end of the internship, a final evaluation will determine your readiness to advance to Immersion Training.

Immersion Training
Designed for your success
Over the course of seven consecutive weeks, certified instructors at Volvo Car’s training facility in Ridgeville, SC, will guide you through a robust curriculum that includes classroom learning, in-shop assignments, and eLearning.
Lodging (double-occupancy) and most meals are provided for non-local apprentices
Training includes advanced diagnostics, repair procedures, and electric vehicle education
In-shop assignments reinforce real-world application through service and maintenance tasks
This immersive training experience will accelerate your growth and prepare you for a career back at the Volvo Car retailer.

Competition for Volvo technicians
VISTA started in 1957, originally as a competition for Volvo technicians in Sweden. Today, it is a biennial global event and the world's largest competition for aftermarket personnel. From the very beginning, VISTA has been about teamwork and competence development, and there is nothing better than a little friendly rivalry to trigger that. When the competition started in 1957, it was an exclusively Swedish event. However, over the next 20 years, VISTA expanded globally, and by 1977 it had reached every continent, attracting authorized Volvo dealers from around the world.

Upon successful completion of the training immersion, you’ll earn your G1 technician certification and return to your host retailer to begin your career as an official certified G1 technician.
